Description
Spice Route Tarragon Old Vine Chenin Blanc is sourced from a remarkable Swartland vineyard planted over 40 years ago, where old vines rooted in koffieklip soils of decomposed granite and iron-rich clay produce fruit of natural intensity and character. Dryland farming and a southeast-facing slope encourage deep root systems and long sun exposure, resulting in a wine that captures the bold, expressive essence of the Swartland. Harvested on 26 February 2024, this is Chenin shaped by place, patience and time.
On the palate, the Spice Route Tarragon Old Vine Chenin Blanc opens with aromas of ripe pineapple, stone fruit and candied pear, lifted by a subtle herbal note of fennel. Gentle oak ageing adds creamy texture through the mid-palate, while layered tropical and citrus flavours carry through to a dry, pithy, refreshing finish. Generous yet precise, this wine pairs beautifully with rich seafood, roasted chicken, mild curries or earthy vegetarian dishes and will reward careful cellaring over the next five to seven years.
