Fairview Sweet Red 2022

R130.00 VAT Inc.

Dark ruby red colour in the glass with rich aromas of sun ripened plums and earthy tones of prune and mixed spices. The palate has balanced spice and rum-and-raisin flavours, candied berry notes and a sweet finish.

Description

The Petite Sirah and Tempranillo grapes were harvested from trellised vineyards planted on decomposed granite soils on the upper slopes of Fairview farm in Paarl. A small percentage Souzão grapes from the Swartland were used to make a fortified wine back in 2016, and then blended with the Petite Sirah for complexity.

Petite Sirah (also known as Durif) is a natural crossing of Syrah and Peloursin, discovered by Professor François Durif in the south of France in 1880. Its intense colour and good tannin structure makes it an excellent blending partner. It thrives in warm climates, both here in Paarl and in the Swartland. The Souzão and Tempranillo are traditional Port-style varieties, fitting for this Port style of wine.
